How a specialty Model (The ILX) that uses the Civic's platform and engine is worse than the GTI just having a spec-out option running up 2k more than the ILX? Or Audi making a version and charging R money for something that is surely NOT an R.

Don't know. I drove an ILX when we were car shopping, wasn't bad. Personally I didn't feel like it drove or felt like a Civic. And I've owned a Civic.

It's probably as much differentiated as the RSX or Integra was. People often forget that those were Civic-based as well.

The problem with the ILX is very simple.

Civic Si sedan without navigation costs $23,705.

Civic Si sedan with navigation costs $25,005.

ILX 6-speed sedan without navigation (because you can't get navigation on the 6-speed) costs $30,095.

So for $6,300 more than the Civic Si without navigation you get...

Drumroll please...

An Acura badge, heated leather seats, and a power driver's seat.

Sure sounds worth the 6 grand to me.

Thank you!!!!!

And Honda makes better cars than VW anyway.

I do wish Honda would offer a base ILX around 20k with the 2.0L engine and a 6-speed manual. They could also bring over the European hatchback and sell it as an Acura here. The hatch and the ILX could both be sold as the new Acura Integra.

4-cylinder luxury cars are awesome. I like the luxury and prestige along with better gas mileage (and the smaller offerings often lean towards the sporty side as well)

Honda has no trouble selling rebadged luxury Civics in Canada (the previous CSX and EL), and the Mercedes B-class is pretty successful too. Honda and Mercedes made a big mistake by not selling them down here. A low-priced starter luxury car is what they need.

The Integra and RSX always had a more powerful engine option that wasn't available in the Civic.

The ILX is mechanically identical to the Civic Si.

Hell, I used to have an Integra GSR and even I think the ILX is stupid.

Man, you're just jealous!
Kidding, of course. I think the ILX earns more ire because of the Integra/RSX and TSX. Those were all better options than the ILX. It deserves to go away because it is a step backwards, and a continuation of Acura's general slide into irrelevance. If they aren't careful, they're going to drift into Lincoln territory.

VW, on the other hand, has a car in the GTI that carries a bit of a cult following, and therefore gets more leeway. I can't even imagine how loud the slurping will be when the GTD gets here.

I mean the first gen TSX was a killer machine I agree. However, the second gen is a far more bloated machine. I think that was the nail in the coffin instead of the ILX, which everyone wants to blame.

Yeah I don't really see the problem.

Leather and the few extra features you get like fog lights, HIDs, heated seats, etc. are alone a few grand total if you were to get them on the Civic.

However in general, the interior of the ILX is much, much nicer looking than the Civic. It's not just a Civic on the inside with a few extra features. Also it looks like an Acura from the outside. Although you and me know it's a gussied up civic, most people don't.
